1. What is the Southeast DBTAC?

The Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center (DBTAC): Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) is one of ten regional resources in the DBTAC National Network of ADA Centers funded to provide information, materials, technical assistance, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to promote technology access and inclusion by all individuals, as well as facilitate the widespread use of universal design.

2. How long have you been in operation?

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) has been in operation since 1991.

3. What is the purpose of a DBTAC: ADA Center ?

The purpose of a DBTAC: ADA Center is to facilitate voluntary compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to promote technology access and inclusion by all individuals as well as facilitate the widespread use of universal design.

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) is located in Atlanta, Georgia and serves as the regional office for an extended leadership network of State and Local Affiliates from eight (8) states in the U.S. Southeast Region.

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) serves the eight states comprising Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) Federal Region IV.

7. How does the Southeast DBTAC serve such a large geographic area?

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) serves as the regional office for an extended leadership network of State and Local Affiliates from eight (8) states in the U.S. Southeast Region (see What states does the Southeast DBTAC serve?). Designated State Affiliates serve as the leaders around which statewide activities
are organized; Local Affiliates in turn strengthen each respective statewide infrastructure. The Southeast DBTAC and the State Resource Network provide assistance to increase awareness and understanding of and voluntary compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as promote accessible information technology (I T).

We continually recruit Network Members, who are individuals and agency representatives interested in learning more about the ADA and accessible technology . In return for their leadership and assistance, the Southeast DBTAC provides current information, educational training tools, and enhanced networking opportunities for sharing challenges, successes and much more.

8. Who is your funding source?

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) is one of ten regional DBTAC: ADA Centers funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) of the U.S. Department of Education.

9. Do DBTACs monitor or enforce the ADA?

No. The DBTAC: ADA Centers do not monitor or enforce the law. Rather, we are authorized by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) to provide information, materials, and technical assistance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to promote technology access and inclusion by all individuals as well as facilitate the widespread use of universal design.

10. Can you help me get a job?

No. The U.S. Department of Labor offers job listings and information about many job-related issues through the website called Career One-Stop at www.careeronestop.org.

11. Can you certify my disability?

No. However, Information Specialists can provide you with information you will need for others who can offer this service.

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) operates Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).

The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) is a regional resource center that provides accurate information and materials about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to promote technology access. Alternate formats of materials are available upon request. Most materials are available free of charge and can be downloaded from the Publications page of the Southeast DBTAC website or search the ADA Document Collection - external web site. There is a nominal fee to defray shipping and handling for materials ordered directly from the Southeast DBTAC.
