2008 ADA Anniversary Packet Overview The 18th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is rapidly approaching (July 26, 2008). The DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center along with its ADA Affiliate Network has accomplished significant results toward voluntary compliance with the ADA. The 2008 ADA Anniversary Packet has been designed to capture our collective achievements and highlight useful ADA information and materials that can be used to enhance your ADA anniversary events. This year’s packet includes the following materials: 1. Overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act – a summary of the ADA, the titles, and its application to employers, state and local governments, private businesses, and telecommunications 2. ADA Preamble and History 3. The ADA from a Civil Rights Perspective - a brief fact sheet explaining the concept of the ADA and its civil rights background 4. Restoring the ADA – an article explaining the background and current status of the ADA Restoration Act. A timeline is also included. 5. Americans with Disabilities Act Resources – a listing of the new publications and online resources produced by the federal agencies and the DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center since July 2007. 9. Americans with Disabilities Act and Olmstead Resources – a resource list related to the Olmstead decision that a historical context and an update on current activities that are underway to expand home and community options and make community living more accessible for individuals with disabilities. 10. Statistics You Can Use – disability and ADA-related statistics from a variety of sources. 11.
