Review written documentation of the functional limitations and associated educational recommendations for each student.
Prepare an Individual Accommodation Plan or IAP summarizing the appropriate educational accommodations.
Proctor exams that require the Kurzweil Reader software.
Provide written documentation from a qualified practitioner that describes the nature of the disability, functional limitations due to the disability, severity of these limitations, and reasonable accommodations.
Review accommodation requests with the Director of Disability Services.
Share the IAP with each course instructor early in the semester. (Accommodations are not retroactive and will not be provided until the IAP is presented for signature.)
Appear on time and complete exams in accordance with Instructor's policy.
Notify Disability Services if the accommodations are not satisfactory.
Notify Disability Services promptly if not able to take the exam for some disability-related reason.
Review the "Individual Accommodation Plan" or IAP and discuss it with the student.
Discuss options to accommodate the student's testing needs including addressing issues related to the provision of a distraction-limited space and quiet location.
Contact the Disability Services Office to resolve any questions about testing recommendations.
Schedule the student with the Learning Center for separate setting or extended time accommodations if the instructor cannot proctor the test for some reason.
Appointments for use of assistive software
Disability Services administers exams requiring assistive software at specified
times by appointment. Appointments may be made with Kathy Helms, DS Assistant
by calling 694-1812 (voice).
Test materials
When asked to administer a test requiring assistive software, Disability
Services will inquire about other materials that instructors allow for the
test such as calculators, textbooks, notes, etc. Only those items which
are approved will be allowed.
